京都外国語大学国際貢献学部グローバル観光学科教授。専門は文化人類学、移民研究。北米のアジア系移民コミュニティやエスニック・タウンでの調査を経て、2014年からカナダ移民の移民母村として知られる三尾にて学生たちとフィールドワークをおこなう。近年は、戦前に北米に移民を送り出した和歌山県美浜町三尾地区(通称アメリカ村)を拠点とした地域連携型の教育・研究活動を実践する。主な著作として、「三尾とカナダをめぐる移民文化の資源化と次世代育成」（2024、『季刊民族学』187: 54-61）「移民と観光：和歌山県アメリカ村とルーツ・ツーリズム」(2023、原文韓国語、権京仙・具知瑛・金潤煥『동아시아 해역의 이주와 사회（東アジア海域の移住と社会）』pp.245~268、図書出版ソンイン）「和歌山アメリカ村の地方創生とルーツ・ツーリズムー移民研究の社会還元に向けてー」（2020、東悦子・西山巨章との共著『移民研究年報』26：81-90)などがある。
Sachiko Kawakami is a professor of anthropology and migration studies at
the Department of Global Tourism, Faculty of Global Engagement, Kyoto University of
Foreign Studies. She is an ethnographic fieldworker who is passionate about listening
to life stories as well as producing unique academic projects for university students and
glocal communities. Her fieldwork in Mio has started in 2014, and she has been working in the areas of local revitalization, heritage learning, overseas migration, and
roots tourism.
